Devo dire la verità: questo film si discosta, e molto, dalla serie animata.
E' un anime completo, che analizza la relazione padre-figlio in maniera corretta e riesce anche a strapparci qualche lacrimuccia.
La storia, a grandi linee è questa: Carletto si trova ormai da tempo sulla terra ma non scrive mai una lettera a suo padre, il re dei mostri, per pigrizia (o menefreghismo). Carletto viene quindi sgridato dai suoi tutori, e quando si decide a scrivere finalmente una lettera, viene a sapere che suo padre sta molto male.
Finalmente durante questo film si presenta un avversario notevole, che Carletto cercherà di sconfiggere con le unghie e con i denti, dimostrando il suo valore.
